Botting
Basics
Botting is illegal. If your character enters any command and you are not physically at the keyboard, you are botting. Most client scripting is perfectly legal -- it is scripting that plays your character for you that is not. Anti-idle scripting -- an automated mechanism whose purpose is to keep your character from idling -- is also illegal, with a separate and less harsh set of punishments. How we check We allow a reasonable leeway to answer. Missing a tell happens to everyone, and one unanswered tell is not by itself proof of anything. Checks are also not limited to tells; we use a number of other means to determine whether a character is being played by a person or a script. Punishments Both botting and anti-idle scripting escalate through a fixed series of offenses, beginning with a warning and ending in removal from your guild (losing all of your gxp) or a wipe. Protecting yourself If you use triggers and are not actively watching your screen, a deadman's trigger is strongly recommended, so that your character stops acting when you stop responding. If you are leaving the keyboard, take care to disable all scripting. (See also: help rules, help punishment, help idle)
